This centre, once completed, will be a shining light and hope for the local people of Nebaj who will be empowered with their newfound skills. 1. What is a missions team?
A missions team is a group sent to work alongside an MV field coordinator (missionary on the field) to help in ministry, outreach or a specific project. The MV field coordinators live in the country where the teams are hosted and have established a relationship with the local churches and leaders in the community. Through these relationships, field coordinators find necessary projects and work alongside the leaders to share the Gospel.
2: How long do mission trips generally go for?
Teams typically go for 7-10 days, however some teams go for 14 days if travelling great distances. Internships for individuals and couples are available for longer period of time.
3: How much does a missions trip cost?
Teams are costed individually according to country, time of year, flight costs and other influencing factors. Most teams are approximately $2200.
4: What does the cost of the trip include?
The cost includes airfare, in-country transportation, food and hotels while in country and translators. It does not include travels to the airport in Canada, souvenirs or extra tourists day trips in the country of the missions trip or out-of-country medical insurance.
5: What kind of work would I do on a missions trip?
There are different kinds of teams that you can be a part of: construction, medical, ministry, sewing or youth. Construction teams vary in work from painting to block laying and everything in between! Medical teams can consist of GPs, dentists, pharmacists, nutritionists, physio theropists, nurses etc. Ministry teams can work with children, youth, or adults in many different styles. The options are endless! Sewing teams teach the indigenous women how to sew and start their own businesses to be sef-sufficient. Youth teams can do a combination of several things like construction and ministry. Ultimately, the MVC office works with field coordinators and team leaders to find a good match for your team.
6: Do I need to be skilled in a particular trade to join a team?
Not at all. It is always beneficial to have skilled workers, teachers, or medical personalle, but we certainly encourage all people to join a team.
7: What age groups go on mission teams?
MVC will take almost any age, but upon approval. Team member ages have varied from pre-teen to in their 80's.
8: Do I have to join a team or do I have to make up my own team?
MVC offers open teams to individuals or small groups or if there is a larger group that wish to go, MVC can start up a new team for that group. Teams vary in size from 3-100! Average size is about 10 people.
9: What kind of training do I need before going on a team?
Team members do not require formal training but are stongly encouraged to attend all team meetings with their team leader. All team leaders require team leader training.
10: Do I have to be a Christian to join a team?
No. MVC is happy to take all people wherever their faith journey may be.
